Most Accidents Happen in the Home...

...but at least my craft room's clean.

Monday began as a wonderful day. I had lots of energy and decided to clean, organize and redesign my little craft room. An hour into the endeavor a sudden little painful poke brought me up short. What happened? I checked out my right big toe where a tiny drop of blood was visible. Dang. A needle in the carpet. A straw needle. A very fine needle. As long as I searched I couldn’t find it. So I vacuumed like a mad woman fearing I’d get poked again. And the day went on. No pain. No swelling. It wasn’t until the drive home from my work-out that my poor toe started to hurt a bit. I felt around and…uh oh. Was that the point of a needle just under the skin?

At 4:30 I took myself off to the local emergency room. X-rays showed about ¾” of a needle was smack dab in the middle of my toe. I was rather embarrassed as I sat in the waiting room amidst very sick and injured people. Lots of them. Wow, that place was busy on a Monday evening! But by 9:00 p.m. it was my turn to get an exam room. For not having seen a doctor in 5 hours all of a sudden I had a small army gathering and consulting and scratching their heads. The needle was in pretty deep and they weren’t sure how to proceed.

Two orthopedic surgeons decided on a plan and for the next ½ hour it was “cut and open,” “cut and open.” Finally the culprit was found and removed! After a few stitches, lots of bandaging and an X-ray, to be sure no tiny piece was left behind, I was able to drive myself home.

Moral of the story: Wear shoes in the craft room.

Ouch! I totally sympathize with waiting in the ER for 5 hours. However, I haven't had a needle in my foot yet. Knock on wood!

Sorry.I like the moral but wow! I lost a needle in my couch once, I was terrified. Thankfully I found it before I sat on it!
Hopefully you'll feel better :)

OMG Karen! Big time OUCH! I've stepped on a few pins and needles in my time, but never to this extent. I bet your toe is so sore. Hope you aren't hobbling for too long! I very seldom wear shoes in the craft room, but will probably never forget your emergency. I will at least try to remember my flip flops!

Hope that toe heals fast!
XO

awe!!!! Good Grief honey! I'm glad you are okay! And that your craft room is clean now ;) I can't imagine finding out that the needle was still in my toe! I think I might have fainted when I found out! lol anyways, so glad you are on your way to recovery! Whenever I'd drive with my mister and be knitting, he told me he might have to make a rule against knitting in the car because I'd almost poke him when I'd go to start a new row lol - oh the things we do to get our crafting on! :) Be safe out there! ;)
